Day 7 Daily Photo Challange- Pict of most treasured item.

It is a big Item. But I do treasure my home. The house that Keith and I built. WE literally did build it, with help from friends and those we contracted to, who became friends,, in a year. .

We have been blessed beyond our imagination. We have always made everything we lived in a home for our family, the boys have some of their best memories even from what I considered our worse house. Keith and I had a dream home in our hearts. We would talk the IF we designed one it would have this and that and the other. Be in homes that inspired, share our covet’s with each other. Then one day the opportunity – Something I know God gave us. Our house doubled in value. Evan moved to San Antonio for school at just that time. The other two had been gone for years. We jumped out on faith. Found some land from a man who was looking for someone to buy, he died 2 months after we bought it. Found some one who was moving out of their used 5th wheel and wanted little for it. Found the material to build the concrete forms at 1/4 the price… EVERY door was being flung open for us. We designed the house exactly as we wanted it. We lived in a travel trailer for a year, and did not divorce. We had friends and family come and offer their help just when we needed. Those we contracted to ended up all becoming friends, they wanted for our dream to happen as much as we. When the rain came on cement pour day and should have ruined it all, and did not, cement guys as well as we all praised God. The men that rocked the house, who did not speak english, knew God was present in our dream home. They implanted in our house with these specially carved rocksI treasure these.

My side gate is the gate from my child hood home, front courtyard.WE added a center that goes better with our house. My front gate was built by Keith and the Texas in the middle is made by our dearest friend Roy.

The concrete walls have the been placed by Lee, and Keith and Brian and Ricky and Dave and me and…..

The walls are painted by Keith and I. Exactly the way we want them , just for us. Every electric outlet installed by dear friends and co workers of Keith’s. I flip a switch or plug in a lamp and I thank God for each one of them. every day! The baseboards put in by Evan on his weekends home. The roof a combined effort of family and church friends. Our well pump installed by a friend of years. Our main gate built by Brian, adorned, again, by Roy My pedestal sink completed by Lee after his dad finally had enough.;) Door’s hung high and low by my guys. A friend built the fence with his father in law. At the completion of the job, we found that we had given our testimony to our faith in God,by just being, and the father in law, decided if being a believer meant having the joy we had, he wanted to know more!!!

Blood, Sweat, tears and love all hold this house together. My house is my most treasured item. It is a gift, a blessing from God. It is the house that God built, we just were his tools. I pray everyday that I can have opportunity to use it for His Glory.

OH Christmas Tree OH Christmas Tree

I can not believe I forgot to post a picture of my Christmas tree! Here it is! It has been up and ‘lighted up’ since Saturday, and decorated on Sunday.

Last year all the G Kids came over and we made cookies and  and and…. But this time only one set came. The LP Gkids came and helped me decorate, standing on the step ladder was the highlight for them all.   I had so hoped to set an annual event of all the Gkids coming and spending time with- And of course their parents if they wanted. But not this time.  One thing that has stuck (so far) is the placing of the Christmas Tree.  Each year one will choose the placement, starting with the oldest and  the next year the next one gets to pick the spot for the tree– the only rule is not in front of the TV.  I will move furniture if need. (I did this year) The oldest was  last year (the first Annual Picking the Place of TheTree Event). This year #2 picked the placement. If there are no more GKid additions, each GKid will pick every 6 years.

My giant tree- which is not real- we went fake when Lee (# 1 son) had his second asthma attack after pulling down the real tree.  I bought this tree, a couple of years ago, when we were still in our travel trailer while building this house (first time I ever never had a tree).  It was on clearance at Hobby Lobby, for—get this- $25- because the lights did not work.  The lights are not embedded in the branches, just wrapped around them.  The out lights were one string. The out lights had one bulb that needed to be pushed back in. So TA DA, I got a GOOOOOOOD deal, a great gift for not getting a tree for one Christmas.

Not being a close shot, you can not tell, the tree is cowboy themed. Rope for garland, red chili pepper covers for some of the lights, bandanas tied here and there, and cowboy type ornaments.  Keith will have nothing else.  It fits actually.  I am working on getting one of the tacky pink or purple Fake fake fake looking ones for the ‘Nonnie Room’ that will be mine!

The smaller it is the longer it takes…

We decided a few months ago that we would add an apartment in the shop Keith was building. We decided this based on a couple of things:

1.Apartments, rentals of any kind, here are ridiculously expensive and right now, there are no apartments or homes to be rented.

2.IF there were apartments, we don’t think Evan’s minimum wage income could afford him a place that would be worth the money.

So we built the shop and designed the efficiency apartment and told Evan “Soon.”  We lied.   Not intentionally, we thought we would get the apartment finished in a matter of weeks. We built a house in a year, of course we could fill/in build an apartment   “Soon.” This apartment has taken almost a year and we still need to dig the septic, hook up the water,(plumb) build the shower, put in sink, toilet, put cabinets in the kitchen. We still have MAJOR work to do.

One weekend, about 6 ago, Keith and Evan moved some of Evan’s stuff into his apartment, prior to the electric being hooked up.  Keith wanted to get the stuff out of his shop so he could get some room to do some work on the apartment.  This was all Evan needed. Evan got him an extension cord, and ran it from our house to the apartment, hooked up the window unit, and his lamp, another extension cord and electric strip, his TV, the cable box we have been paying not to use for 5 months, his playstation, his television and phone charger. He put sheets on his bed, and was home.

Evan obviously wanted to get out of Dodge!

Since his move we have finally added the electric, put in the switches, plugs (except the oven)put up lights(except the bathroom).  I spent all day putting in the coolest Ikea shelving. ALL DAY.  The shelves separate his room from the living/kitchen, and hold his electronics, collectible cars, and array of Evan stuff.

Evan makes treks over to the house for showers and bathroom. He insists on eating in his home, uses his microwave and George Foreman grill and electric griddle to cook. Keith attempted to wire the plug outlet for the oven, only to find it was the wrong one, when he went to buy the electrical plug (which does not come with oven).

This weekend the pump was finally put on the well we drilled a year ago. We have outdoor faucets for the house, but nothing hooked up in his apartment, yet. I have cabinets I finished for his apartment, sitting in the floor of the shop waiting for the kitchen sink to be hooked up with in and out plumbing. We have whitetile and a shower base to build a shower with, waiting for green board and plumbing to be brought in. The bath sink needs to be purchased, the toilet needs to be purchased.

All the plumbing can be hooked up, except the toilet. The grey water can drain out side, Lord knows theground would love the moisture. The toilet can not hook up yet  though, we have to rent some kind of equipment, AGAIN, to did a trench from the apartment to the septic tanks. The hard dry ground with caliche rock 1 foot below is impossible to penetrate by mere human hands.

In the mean time, Evan seems to be completely happy with his bachelor pad. The sink is full of dishes, which he brings over in his clothes basket to wash once a week t, after he comes over and washes hisclothes. He steps outsideto pee (he usually does ‘the other’ at work, he says)  and shows up here to shower. He never makes his bed. I think the only thing that will change when he gets plumbing, is he will shower at his place.

>Easier to build a house than post a slide show!!

>Finally it worked!! I hope you enjoy the slide show– It was not exactly what I had hoped for, something in my homemade one turned up as a copyright issue?? for Photobucket- go figure!

Our rock men are still here, they should finish this weekend.
After placing my rock with the cross for me, they must have been inspired to do more for us. Last night they showed us two rocks they had carved, with crosses on them. We were so touched that they wanted to do something special like that for our home! We are having one placed near the side master door, and the other next to the upstairs office/other room. Again another show of God’s hand in this home, we have had so many that have worked for us ,for Him. The kindness shows in these small gestures, all seem to take a part, a pride, a claim to this dwelling. Cipriano and Miguel, our cement guys, came by yesterday- They were both so very happy for us to have come this far, and so very complimentary of our home, you could see the pride in their eyes for having been a part of all of it.
I am so very excited to see what God has in store for us in the future, how he will use us and this home. I pray, and ask you to pray that we are able to honor him with this home, always.
We are not finished yet, more to come.

>Things are Happenin…

>Guess what we did? NO! Not THAT!

WE Painted the house all inside. We got us a sprayer and sprayed away– Keith mostly– he is not confident in my spraying abilities. But it really does not matter how much you cover, your eyes get it — We tried goggles but they covered in paint in about 1 minute– thus the raccoon look.
My boogers did get a bit colored, I kept forgetting my mask. I would take it off to breath or talk, then start spraying then wonder why I was choking to death– I am still blonde underneath the grey!
The cabinet guys showed up to start the cabinets today: The middle islands will be put in tomorrow.
And I finally got to start glazing the walls. Finally I can actually contribute. Keith has been doing the electric, the painting, the building of… I try to help but I do not think I do that much for him– But NOW I can do something he can’t– I feel so useful!! And I LOVE doing it.
Keith also put in the living room lights tonight– We LOVE them!
It is getting so much closer– We are needing it finished by end april– I think we will make It!
